We have received the latest 3G Router from Option Wireless this week, the Globesurfer III Plus (Globesurfer 361)for testing. And with a 14.4 Mbps Download speed together with a 5.76 Mbps Upload speed we were really looking forward to trying it out.
First things to notice between the previous model and this one is that there is no screen on the modem but a blue panel with the different connections printed on it. With a guess it was obvious that the different connections would light up such as the Power, Wireless, Internet and the Mobile alerts(SMS and Missed Calles) and we guessed right.

As soon as you plug your modem on, the Power shows a green light. Then the other connections will light up one after the other. I thought something was wrong but it actually is to show you that the GS3 Plus is ready for your SIM and ready to be connected.
Like any other Router, you will have to use it via Ethernet to set it up. The Set Up process is rather easier than the previous model which I find pleasing and easy to understand. Enter the APN for your mobile operator, I used Vodacom so it is Internet. That is the most important part and thereafter you can enter the Password for your Wifi network or leave it out.
It took less than five minutes to set up and you will be loaded to the Home Page of the GS3 Plus. There you can press the Connect Button and let the Modem connect to the Vodacom network, took less than a minute to connect (If you have a pass code for your SIM, you will need to enter that first on the Home Page)The connection speeds depends on your ISP and your location. So go to your mobile operators web page for signal strengths in your areas or contact them.
Download and Upload speeds are really good. Downloaded a 5MB song in iTunes in less than 2 minutes and uploaded 5MB of pictures on Facebook in less than 5 minutes. I dont know if Vodacom can handle the 14.4 Mbps download speeds but it seems to be ok.
I would have liked the option of powering the modem via USB rather than using the power supply so I can use it on the road or where there is no electricity.
Overall impression is that the Globesurfer III Plus is a real upgrade to the Globesurfer III as the Set Up Process is much more simple and the connection speeds are upgraded. Highly recommended.
